My son found this story very funny。 Lovely illustrations too。

I enjoyed this book I especially liked the illustrations。 They exaggerated the situation a little bit。 Also there were parts in the book where the format of the words were involved in the picture。 I think this book makes kids use their imagination as well。 Overall it was a veery enjoyable book。

Great as read aloud for all grades。Marjorie is a cow who thinks of herself as ordinary because she is not as talented as the rest of the cows。 The chickens hear her say this and they come up with a plan。 They place an egg that looks like it has cow spots under Marjorie as she is sleeping。 None of the other cows believe she actually laid an egg but when the chicken comes out it says "moo。" A fun book to have students read if they are having a hard time fitting in or do not have any specific talen Great as read aloud for all grades。Marjorie is a cow who thinks of herself as ordinary because she is not as talented as the rest of the cows。 The chickens hear her say this and they come up with a plan。 They place an egg that looks like it has cow spots under Marjorie as she is sleeping。 None of the other cows believe she actually laid an egg but when the chicken comes out it says "moo。" A fun book to have students read if they are having a hard time fitting in or do not have any specific talents or hobbies that they find out of the ordinary。 。。。more

We read this at the library as part of our semi-annual puppet show。 I really liked how the cow wanted to feel connected to something/important, so the egg helps ground her。 I also liked the message that family isn't necessarily what we look like but what we make it。 Very sweet and humorous。For: farm animal lovers; readers wanting a book about adoption and/or feeling extraordinary。Possible red flags: scheming; bullying from the other animals。 We read this at the library as part of our semi-annual puppet show。 I really liked how the cow wanted to feel connected to something/important, so the egg helps ground her。 I also liked the message that family isn't necessarily what we look like but what we make it。 Very sweet and humorous。For: farm animal lovers; readers wanting a book about adoption and/or feeling extraordinary。Possible red flags: scheming; bullying from the other animals。 。。。more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 I actually read it out loud to my little brother, who even being older, loved it。 It has a simple but effective point about how everyone is different but we can still all get along。 It is such a fun concept through the book about the cow who laid an egg with a cartoon style。

Andy Cutbill, illustrated by Russell AytoHarperColins 2006Marjorie is just a cow who does not feel special because she cannot do handstands or ride a bicycle like the other cows。 She tells this to her friends the chickens, and then the next day, Marjorie woke up and saw that she had laid an egg! Really fun book。 The title is self-explanatory。On the surface, silly nonsense, which the kids were absolutely tickled with。 And that's what makes a great kids' book - if it can teach them about unconditional love and being nice to those that are a bit different, without the kids noticing, cos they're having fun。Oh, and if my kids WANT to read it themselves - a book that encourages reading is a winner! Summary: This sweet little book is about a cow who was feeling a little less than special one day。 She explained her distress to her chicken friends, who came up with an idea that would make the cow feel extraordinary。 Evaluation: This book teaches how friends can help each other out in attempt to make them happy with the addition of a little barn yard humor。 It also displays exceptional illustrations of what takes on the farm, and allows the reader to picture the chaos when Marjorie laid her eg Summary: This sweet little book is about a cow who was feeling a little less than special one day。 She explained her distress to her chicken friends, who came up with an idea that would make the cow feel extraordinary。 Evaluation: This book teaches how friends can help each other out in attempt to make them happy with the addition of a little barn yard humor。 It also displays exceptional illustrations of what takes on the farm, and allows the reader to picture the chaos when Marjorie laid her egg。 Teaching Ideas: This book could be used within the classroom as an example of fiction, as we all know Cows cannot lay eggs。 This book could also be used to teacher children about being intentional with their drawings as we notice that Marjorie egg had spots just like a cow。 It also an original story and, because of this it is a more interesting read。 This could provoke students to be more original within their own writings。 。。。more

I found it。 It must have come out of my insides。Kind of a weird book。 It's kind of a mixed message。 There's a cow that feels like she's not special because all the other cows can ride bicycles and do handstands instead of her。 The chickens, without any clear motivation other than her happiness, take an egg and paint spots on it in order to cause her to think that she laid an egg。 The farmer and his wife get the news and she becomes well known for laying an egg。 Then the other cows feel bad becau I found it。 It must have come out of my insides。Kind of a weird book。 It's kind of a mixed message。 There's a cow that feels like she's not special because all the other cows can ride bicycles and do handstands instead of her。 The chickens, without any clear motivation other than her happiness, take an egg and paint spots on it in order to cause her to think that she laid an egg。 The farmer and his wife get the news and she becomes well known for laying an egg。 Then the other cows feel bad because their tricks pale in comparison to laying an egg, so they're no longer special。 They accuse the chickens of planting the egg, and the chickens tell them to prove it。 So they wait for the egg to hatch, and inside is a baby bird, which promptly yells "MOO" and the cow names it Daisy and declares that it is a cow。 That's how the book ends。I am kind of lost。 The ending message is definitely, "Accept others for who they are," but if the chickens had accepted her for who she was, they wouldn't have put the egg under her, so the starting message is more like, "Patronize people so they don't feel ordinary。" It's not bad, it's just weird。 It's totally unrealistic, and this kind of thing would never happen, so it's certainly not a bad message。 But the message more or less boils down to, "Pretend that other people are special even though you know they're really not。"Message: Accept others for who they are。 Or, patronize people so they don't feel ordinary。For more children's book reviews, see my website at http://www。drttmk。com。 。。。more

(even though we all know cows do not lay eggs) People come from all over the country to check out the once in a lifetime chance, and the other cows start to get a little suspicious。 They claim to Marge that that is not her egg and the Chickens defend her with “Prove it!” The only way to ‘prove it’, is to wait until the egg is hatched。 Will Marge be a cow mommy to an egg or will it come out and want a chicken mama? Literary Merit: I believe the value of characterization in this story is very important and relatable, especially to young children。 Marge, the cow, is feeling very unspecial and under appreciated compared to the other cows who can do handstands and ride bicycles。 Most children do not realize the power in their uniqueness, so a lot of children have self-esteem issues and always compare themselves to others。 Although Marge is a fantasy animal character who talks, her personality and traits are extremely lifelike and easily related to。 The author also does a great job presenting different facets of Marge the cow, making her a multidimensional character, which keeps the reader in tune and intrigued with Marge。Classroom Connection: Although the common person knows that cows don’t lay eggs, some of my younger students may not understand the life cycle of animals, and thus, not be able to understand the story。 I would want to inform my students a little further with life cycles by having them compare and contrast the life cycles of different animals。 I would find a collection of books on life cycles in general or books that focus specifically on an animal's life cycle, and let my students explore them。 I would then allow them to choose an animal that they found interesting and have them create a life cycle poster using the computer for pictures to print out。 My students would come out knowing a lot more information on animal life cycles, while using components from reading, writing, drawing, and technology。 。。。more
